PoW Box Office

Post by LunarScorpio on Sun Aug 02, 2009 9:59 pm

As some of you may know, I have an obsession with movies. I love all types of movies, both old and new. So, I created this box office for us to come and talk about all sorts of movies. They can be old, they can be known, they can be popular, and they can be cult hits. I want to hear about them! So let’s get started, what are some of your favorite movies?

I've got lots of favorite movies, so I'll just pick a random one: EQUILIBRIUM!

Pretty fun action movie with some 1984-ish philosophy on the side, from the same guy that brought you Ultraviolet.

I have a lot of favorite movies as well. But I'd have to say that my all time favorite is Gone With the Wind. I am a sucker for the romantic, and it is one of the all time best romances.
Second comes Scarlett (the sequel to GwtW.)
THEN it's just about every horror movie. Halloween (Rob Zombie's) is the top of that.

My favorite movie ever is The Lion King, so much so that my wedding theme is that. Other than that, there's a loooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggg list. I'll name off a few:

Reservoir Dogs
Saw
Hook
The Goonies
Watchmen
Ghostbusters
Leon the Professional
Boondock Saints

And there are a ton more.

I have tons of favorite movies, but here's a few;

Keith-One of the best movies I've ever seen. I can't describe it without giving it away but it changed me, so I highly reccomend it.
The Dark Knight-Come on, how could you not love this movie? Heath Ledger had done an amazing job as the Joker, and overall I liked how it captured the dark side of Batman, way different from the campy version with Jack Nickolson and Michael Keaton (still a good movie)
John Tucker Must Die-HILARIOUS! I was laughing pretty much through this whole movie. It's a must-watch.
Rain Man-I loved this movie, Dustin Hoffman is awesome.
Meet the Fockers-Again, Dustin Hoffman and Ben Stiller-super funny.
The Count of Monte Cristo-Classic
And pretty much any horror or Stephen King movie Very Happy

I think I've seen most of those movies actually, lol. I'm just waiting for my fiance (the other admin) to jump in here and tell you how much he likes Stephen King!

Who doesn't love King? He is the King! I just hope the Dark Tower movie comes to fruition, and that it is done right. That book series was one of my all time favorites.

Has anyone heard of the movie District 9? Well, tonight TonyM and I will be going to see it. I'm pretty excited about it. I hope it ends up being good. I mean, it looks good, but I will make sure to put my two cents in about it after I see it!

OMG, District 9 was AWESOME!!! It was much better than I thought it was going to be. I may have to make a thread about it, that's how great I thought it was, lol.

I would have to dig through cabinets to make sure I don't miss any, and I'm feeling rather slouchy, so I'll just name some that come to mind.

Brazil
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Primer
Blade Runner
WALL-E
There Will Be Blood
Closer
Reservoir Dogs
The Godfather trilogy
Star Wars IV-VI
The Life of Brian
The Last King of Scotland
Good Night and Good Luck
Thank You For Smoking
Apocalypse Now
Stop Making Sense (Talking Heads concert film)

And, last, but not least, virtually everything by Stanley Kubrick (2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, et al.)

I haven't been to the theatre ever since Slumdog Millionaire and Watchmen were out. I do have plans to go tomorrow night, though, for Inglourious Basterds, which is supposed to be Tarantino's finest in a long time.

Well, the fact that it was shot as a documentary was a turnoff. Not to mention that you could tell the ending was how it was.

  • I'm getting tired of documentary style movies. District 9 looked really cool. But now that you mention that's the style.. I'm not so interested anymore. Waste of money imo.

District 9 was really good in my opinion. It's probably only the second movie I saw in the documentary or shaky cam style.

And yes, I do have a computer of mine own, but I actually enjoy going out to the theater to see movies.

The documentary style didn't seem to bother me that much. You could only really tell it was like that during interviews and a few other scenes. Kinda gave it a realer feel. As for the ending, I was surprised, gotta say. There were a lot of times where I was wondering who would die and who would live.
