What are you reading?

Post by TonyMFuss on Sat Aug 22, 2009 8:45 pm

Well, there is a "What are you watching" topic, so why not? Just post any books, novel or otherwise, you are currently reading and how you feel so far about it. Also feel free to post the last book you read, or any future books you plan to read.

Currently, I am reading "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brian as a means to get an early jump on the coming semester--which sadly starts in a week for me. It is a good story of a group of soilders in the Vietnam war, ad manages to carry a great and interesting vernacular narrative at points without bogging it down to the point of ambiguity. I hear some have to read it in highschool, but I do not think that is universal.

Ohhh, "The Things They Carried" sounds like a really interesting book. I'm going to have to find it in the library some time.

I'm currently reading The Phantom of the Opera (Gaston Leroux) as part of my summer assignments. That, and annotating it, which I still am clueless on how to do and ought to get to googling that some time.

Then I should also be reading Ancient Rome: an introductory history by Paul A. Zoch, but I'm not sure if I have the time to get to it. I'll probably end up reading it in between classes and hoping my Latin teacher won't mind.

I haven't been reading hardcore in awhile, but I'm trying to read through The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins, and I'm meaning to tackle The Stand by Stephen King soon. I really want to actually sit and read, but I can't force myself to for some reason.

I finally got to the library after a two-month dry spell. Now I'm happily reading Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr, something I've been trying to track down all summer.

Has anyone ever read the GlassWright series by Mindy L. Klasky? I'm only asking because I'm beginning to think I'm the only one in the world who has.

You really, really should. They're a little difficult to get into, but they're so worth it.

Mono, I just fell in love with you. I didn't know anyone else read that series. It's by far the best that I've read. Robert Jordan is . . . was. . . a genius. I actually came to this thread to recomend it to people. lol

So. . . I'm currently reading His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. And also re-reading the Wheel of Time series so that I'll be ready for the next book in October. (I'm on The Shadow Rising). Very Happy

In the middle of Pride and Prejudice right now, for school. I hate it, and all the purple prose just makes it harder to understand. I can't wait 'til I'm done with it and can go back to reading Stephen God King.

I'm like a chapter into Whitechapel Gods by S.M. Peters.

So far I'm not that impressed with it.

I'm also reading a plethora of books for school. :u

Mom reccomended it to me, told me I'd love it for it's graphic nature, and it is actually pretty good.
XDD

I reccomend itto anyone who's into murder, and people harvesting other peoples organs.

I'm reading a scientific book on genetic engineering to prepare for college. Hard to understand, though it is merely an introduction.
Then I reread the Ulldart Chronicles by Markus Heitz. I love these books.
